Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic motor neuron disease. The loss of these motor neurons leads to the atrophying (wasting) of not only their arms and legs, but all their internal muscles like breathing coughing, and swallowing. All these muscles are necessary for our daily function, like crawling, walking, and sitting, feeding and breathing. These functions that we simply take for granted, are just unachievable for these children!

This disease occurs in both children and adults and is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of two! Yet, as you are reading this letter I’m sure you are saying “I have never heard of it before” Ironically, and you could be the one person in 35 to carry the gene for this devastating genetic condition. We are yet to find a cure for SMA, but with your help we could be closer to our goal.

The Spinal Muscular Atrophy Association of Australia is a registered not for profit charity and has deductible gift recipient (DGR) status, so you can claim donations on your tax.

We would love to get you involved in one of the great fundraising opportunities mentioned. Each company will be acknowledged on our website and Facebook pages for your support. Please contact us today if you would like to become involved through one of these events, or if you would like to make a donation.
